Lots of cool things happening here in NYC! Although I am spending most of my time working on my album, I am still trying to make the most of the opportunities afforded by living in this amazing city.
Last week, I was honored to play in the “Leave A Lasting Mark” Concert Series tribute to Van Morrison. I have been hoping to get involved with this series since finding out about it in July, when I moved to NYC. The musicians who play in it are top-notch, and the proceeds of the shows go to charity. Sam Teichman organizes the concerts, which happen every other month or so, each one paying tribute to a particular famous album or artist.
For the Van Morrison tribute show, I sang “Brown Eyed Girl.” Check it out:
Last night, I felt like playing out somewhere, so I decided to go out in front of Madison Square Garden. I’ve been a Knicks fan since I was young, watching John Starks and Patrick Ewing back in the day. I have been excited about the prospect of going to some Knicks games now that I live NYC. Now that we have breakout star Jeremy Lin leading the team to seven consecutive wins and sending the city into a veritable tizzy, I couldn’t resist going to the center of the action.
I was playing Adele’s “Someone Like You” and some reporters approached me to ask if I was singing about Jeremy Lin. I said, “No, but I can!” I made up some lyrics about Jeremy Lin to the tune of “Someone Like You” on the spot. One of the reporters was Margot Adler of NPR, and here is her story on Morning Edition, which features some of what I sang:
With all that fun now reported, time to get ready to hit the studio for today’s session!
